Life under the white settler regime in pre-war Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) at a time when the European community might have still chosen a path toward multiracial democracy (as South Africa later did) but opted for war instead, a war which they lost.

Wisconsin

A black cop on the Southside of Chicago and a white cab driver in far northern Greenshores, an exurb as creamy white as a bushel of silver queen corn, fall in love with the same strange girl. As unlikely as it must have been, from alien planes, and miles apart, inhabiting nearly polar ends of the urban wilderness, shortly these two would get to know each other, as guys do, that is, mix their misperceptions of each other dramatically and violently.

Invisible Car Dealer

Once again the torches burned and the white car was lifted onto a flatbed truck bound for the crusher, nothing left but a little glitter on the ground. "Poof! It's invisible!" said Gladstone the African. Did that mean, even if you could no longer see it, let alone drive it, you could still sell it?

The Great Pool Jump

For the SNCC 50th reunion in 2010 I edited and produced a nonfiction book of recollections of mine and several friends from the 1960s civil rights movement in Southwest Georgia. This book, The Great Pool Jump, was printed as a limited edition of 500 copies for the reunion and is sold out, with only a handful remaining. I am contemplating a new edition, as apparently little has changed over the course of my lifetime in America.
